Triple talaq bill passed by Parliament: Rajya Sabha unfurls the flag of victory

Triple talaq news

Thrice since past 19 months, triple-talaq was unable to find a way through Rajya-Sabha to stand upfront as a law. But finally, it found doors by a majority of 99 votes.

Constitution of India contains provisions for an individual to lead its life in accordance with his/her will. No religion, caste or community is considered above the constitution. If something hurdles the right to liberty of an individual or a community, it’s simply unconstitutional. It has to be removed or amended. Declaring Triple-Talaq unconstitutional is one such case.

Thrice since past 19 months, triple-talaq was unable to find a way through Rajya-Sabha to stand upfront as a law. But finally, it found doors by a majority of 99 votes.

Although 84 members opposed and were in the favor of sending it to the select community for some amendments. Even JDU, the party having a national alliance with BJP, walked out of the whale as a sign of disagreement on the issue.

Triple talaq bill passed

Muslims and Islamic Scholars wished to handle it in accordance with the Quran without any interference of the government. Whereas BJP held a clear stand of passing the law against it without any amendment.

It was clearly mentioned in their manifesto too. Supreme Court itself asked the government to bring a law against this heinous crime in 2017.

The issue was debatable on the following facts:

1) Whether triple-talaq is un-Islamic or not?
2) Why most of the Islamic nations have banned the provision of Triple-talaq? Even our neighbor absconded it in 1956?
3) Is Triple-talaq a criminal offense or a civil one?

On one hand, AIMIM leader Mr. Owaisi states that marriage is a contract in Islam, unlike Hindu dharma. On the other hand, Muslim women celebrated the day and paid homage to the PM Narendra Modi for protecting their dignity.

They are blissful on such gratifying occasion of the demolition of a social evil which has always been a fear in them of being vulnerable to her husband through triple talaq.

Moreover, President Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to the triple talaq bill passed by Parliament, making it a law, a government notification said.
